Most products are produced with a label or tag outlining the ideal conditions for laundering.
In many cases, and particularly for older items, we encourage you to disregard these instructions, as requirements change as a product and its materials age.
For older items particularly, consider how often they need to be washed. Some marks may be light enough to be removed with a sponge and mild soap or detergent.
When washing, we recommend doing so cool, inside-out and on an easy care or hand wash cycle if available. For delicate or older items, hand wash only.
Under no circumstances should fabric conditioner be used as this may remove print and patches from shirts. Similarly, avoid ironing, tumble drying or mixing colours as these can cause irreversible damage.
We cannot be held responsible for any damage caused when washing if these guidelines are not followed.
How to handwash
- Spot Test: Apply a small amount of water and mild detergent to an inconspicuous area of the garment. Blot gently and check if the colour fades. If there are no issues, you can proceed.
- Prepare the Water: Fill a basin with cool or slightly warm water, ensuring it’s not too hot.
- Add Detergent: Choose a gentle laundry detergent and mix a small amount into the water.
- Soak the Shirt: Turn the shirt inside out, fully submerge it in the water, and gently press it to ensure it absorbs the water and detergent.
- Rinse: Once the shirt is clean, empty the soapy water and refill the basin with clean, cool water. Submerge the shirt again and gently squeeze to rinse out the detergent. Repeat as necessary until all soap is removed.
- Remove Excess Water: Avoid wringing the shirt, as this can cause damage. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water, then lay the shirt between two towels and roll it up to absorb the moisture.
- Drying: Lay the shirt on an airer to dry. Avoid placing it directly on a radiator or using a tumble dryer to prevent damage.
Storage
Storage possibilities are largely dependent on the space available. We store used stock on hangers - not wire - but our new products are kept folded in plastic bags inside boxes, so either is acceptable. When folding, avoid bending sponsors and namesets where possible. Over a long period of time this can cause cracking, peeling and eventually the removal of additional fixtures.
Ensure shirts are kept in a cool and dry location, away from direct sunlight. Garment bags (AKA dust bags, laundry bags) can be used but they are not essential.
Repairs
We don't offer a repair service but some wear can be easily remedied. Loose hems and stitching can often be fixed with a needle and thread, but if you're uncomfortable undertaking this yourself, most high street tailors will be willing and able.
